Uluwatu clifftop temple overlooking the ocean at golden hour
Guide to Uluwatu

Where to eat, surf, and watch the sunset.

IDLEWILD sits on the Bukit Peninsula, close enough to walk to a beach, a padel court, and a decent flat white. This is the list we hand guests at check-in — the beaches, cafés, restaurants, and sunset spots worth building a Uluwatu day around.

Endless possibilities to the day. One place to call home.

Beaches

3 spots
+

Nyang Nyang Beach

White sand, turquoise water, and the least accessible beach on this list — steep stairs, five minutes' walk from IDLEWILD, or a car/scooter down to the Nyang Nyang car park. Worth the climb back up. Bring water, sunscreen, and a beach towel, and don't go alone. Prefer the view without the walk? Head to Ulu Paragliding instead, a short stroll from the villa, for the same cliffside outlook.

Thomas Beach

Clear water, easier access, a good spot for a relaxed beach day. Popular with beginner surfers — plenty of local instructors on hand — with a few warungs right on the sand for a drink in the shade.

Suluban Beach

The most accessible of Uluwatu's beaches, reachable at low tide. Best for watching surfers from one of the cliffside bars above — Single Fin has the best seats.

02

Cafés & Brunch

6 spots
+

Play by Uluwatu Estate

A short walk from the villa, with a solid brunch menu and padel courts if you want to work up an appetite first.

Saltwood

A newer spot in Bingin with cliffside views over Dreamland Beach. Good for breakfast or sunset dinner — ask for a table facing the ocean.

BAKED. Uluwatu

Reliable sourdough, good pastries, consistently good coffee. A dependable start to the day before the beach.

Ulu Garden

Quiet and clean, with Balinese-leaning food best eaten over a book in the courtyard. Live music some evenings. The attached Ulu Shop is worth a look for singing bowls, incense, and other spiritual souvenirs.

BGS Uluwatu

Half surf shop, half café. Strong coffee, easy atmosphere, a good mix of locals and travellers.

Alchemy Uluwatu

Fresh, plant-based food in a garden setting — salads, juices, raw dishes — plus reliable coffee from the on-site Arabica % counter. A good reset after a few indulgent dinners.

Book ahead for sunset — the clifftop tables go first.

Yuki Uluwatu

Modern Japanese, upbeat, built for sharing plates and cocktails.

Osteria Luna

Cosy Italian with genuinely good pasta. There's a bottle shop on site if you want to bring something back to the villa.

Gooseberry

Smaller and quieter, good for a date night — refined without being formal. A small Gooseberry Intimates shop sits alongside it.
